Separated
from the mainland by the great sandy strait, Fraser Island is not
only the largest sand island in the world covering a huge area of
184,000 hectares, it is also a world heritage listed site. This
history of the place goes back to the time when the native Butchulla
people were the original inhabitants of this island and these people
had named it K’gari, meaning Paradise. Later on, Captain James Cook
sailed by it and Capt Matthew Flinders landed on it and later on it
was named after a shipwreck survivor Eliza Fraser. Tourists from
different corners of the world coming to Australia keep this lovely
island on top of their tour itinerary as this is a place where you
get to see a variety of natural attractions which have been very well
preserved, being a world heritage listed place. For the local
Australians, it’s a quick escape and even the educational
Institutions in Australia organise study trips to this world heritage
listed place for their students as they can study the bio diversity,
flora and fauna and have a great time doing activities which are both
exciting and adventurous.
