Fraser Island Australia is situated off
Queensland’s East Coast, and has long been recognised as one of the world’s
most unique World Heritage Listed Sites. The geographical beauty and wilderness
experience of Fraser Island presents a magnetic attraction for those people who
appreciate nature at its finest.
The world’s largest sand Island stretches
for over 123 km along the Queensland Coast. Comprising of 99% sand, Fraser
Island Australia has sand dunes cloaked
in pristine rainforests not seen anywhere else in the world. It is this
rainforest growing in sand that first drew the attention of scientists from all
over the world due to the inherent lack of nutrients normally found in sand.
Dotted throughout the rainforests of
Fraser Island are over 100 freshwater lakes. The largest of the lakes on Fraser
Island is Lake Boomanjin at just over 200 hectares in size. The therapeutic
waters of Lake Boomanjin is red in colour thanks to the tannin released by tea
trees, giving this lake an amazing red and orange contrast against the white
sand. The waters of Lake Boomanjin are said to provide healing properties that
have been known by the aboriginal inhabitants that were in the areas for
thousands of years.
Arguably one of the most beautiful lakes
on Fraser Island is Lake Birrabeen, with crystal clear water and bright white
sandy beaches. A Lake Birabeen tour is one of the highlights of any Fraser
Island Tour, and is sure to please the eye and camera lens. An almost identical
lake to Lake Birrabeen is Lake McKenzie.
Although smaller, Lake McKenzie is easier to access than Lake Birrabeen
and attracts much larger crowds, so space on the beaches of Lake McKenzie can be
at a premium. Either way, both lakes are simply stunning and offer incredible
photographic images for the keen photographer.
Another favourite past time for tourists
on Fraser Island is the excitement of a 4WD
Fraser Island Adventure Tours
conducted daily through the Rainforests and along the endless stretches of
golden beaches. The turquoise blue waters on the Eastern side of Fraser Island
attracts an abundance of wildlife, including Dolphin, Fish and migrating
Humpback Whales only meters from shore.
A wilderness 4WD Fraser Island experience is truly unique and will stay
with you for a lifetime, however beware to choose wisely, as a large 4WD bus
ride offers better views and greater comfort than a small 4WD car style of
tour.
A Fraser Island 1 Day Tour does not offer
the time to explore all the key attractions that Fraser has to offer, so it is
recommended to take a little more time and choose a Fraser Island Holiday Package that runs for at least 2 or 3 days. There are a number of excellent
tour operators on Fraser Island, and Australian Sunset Safaris ticks all the
boxes. They offer Fraser Island tours from Noosa, Fraser island Tours from
Brisbane and Fraser Island Tours from Gold Coast. All 2 and 3 Day Fraser Island
Adventure Tours provide accommodation and food as part of their Fraser Island
Holiday Packages.
